Terms of Service
The terms that apply when you use SuperCitizen’s website and services.
Last updated July 3, 2026
Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and SuperCitizen, Inc. (“SuperCitizen,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 42-3054761). They govern your access to and use of supercitizen.org, our related pages and features, and any services we offer through them (together, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
Who we are
SuperCitizen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting civic understanding. Questions about these Terms can be sent to [email protected].
Eligibility
You may use the Services only if you can form a binding contract with us and only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and you may not use them if you are under 13. If you use the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.
Your account
Some features require an account. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your credentials confidential, and to be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being used unlawfully or to harm others.
Donations & contributions
Donations to SuperCitizen are voluntary gifts to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider (Stripe); we do not collect or store your full card number on our servers. By donating, you represent that you are authorized to use the payment method you provide.
- Recurring gifts. If you set up a recurring donation or membership, you authorize us to charge your payment method on the interval you select until you cancel. You can cancel future charges at any time from your account or by contacting us at [email protected].
- Refunds. Donations are generally non-refundable to the extent permitted by law. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us and we will review it in good faith.
- Tax matters. SuperCitizen is a 501(c)(3) organization; contributions may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and we provide a receipt for your records. We do not provide tax advice — please consult your own advisor.
Acceptable use
When using the Services, you agree not to:
- Break the law, infringe others’ rights, or violate these Terms;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Services, other accounts, or our systems, or to probe, scan, or disrupt them;
- Interfere with or degrade the Services, including by introducing malware or by placing unreasonable load on our infrastructure;
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or use the Services to harass, defraud, or harm others; or
- Scrape, harvest, or collect information about other users, or use the Services to send spam or unsolicited messages.
Text messages (SMS)
SuperCitizen offers an optional text-messaging program, SuperCitizen Account & Service Messages. It is account-based and transactional only: if you opt in, we may send you account and service text messages — such as sign-in and verification codes, donation receipts, and replies to support requests. We do not send marketing, promotional, or fundraising text messages.
Opting in. You opt in by giving us your mobile number and affirmatively agreeing to receive texts — for example, by checking the consent box on our contact form, in your account settings, or by asking our support team. Consent is not a condition of any purchase or donation.
Frequency & cost. Message frequency varies. We send texts in response to your activity — such as a sign-in attempt, a donation, or a support request — rather than on a set schedule. Message and data rates may apply. Message and data rates are set by your mobile carrier and are your responsibility; SuperCitizen does not charge you for text messages.
Opting out & help. You can cancel at any time by replying STOP to any of our messages. We will send one confirmation message and then stop texting that number. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at [email protected] or (540) 779-1296. How we handle the mobile number and consent you provide is described in the Mobile messaging section of our Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
The Services, including their text, graphics, logos, and software, are owned by SuperCitizen or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Services for their intended purpose. Some of our work is released under open-source or open-content licenses; where that is the case, the applicable license governs and takes precedence over this section for that material.
Third-party services & links
The Services rely on third parties (for example, Stripe for payments and our hosting and email providers) and may link to other SuperCitizen projects or external sites we do not control. Your use of a third party’s service is governed by that party’s terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content, practices, or availability of third-party services, and a link is not an endorsement.
Disclaimers
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that message delivery (including text messages, which depend on your carrier’s network) is guaranteed. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SuperCitizen and its officers, directors, employees, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, or profits, arising out of or relating to your use of the Services. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SuperCitizen and its officers, directors, employees, and volunteers from any claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Services or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Virginia for any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, except where applicable law provides you a non-waivable right to bring a claim elsewhere.
